On shooting and integrating Marion’s flashback sequence in Episode One

Every character’s “night zero” story is going to be revealed through flashbacks (and the occasional vignette) as the overarching story moves along. The world of the graphic novel is exploring the “what happens next” part of the post-apocalypse, but the actual unfolding of events deserved to be told as well.

The actual backstory here, of Marion and her boyfriend Aaron, was developed by Katrina Hamilton, the actor who plays Marion. As part of the collorative nature of the Night Zero project, much of each character’s history, personality, and survival story is developed by the actor rather than the design team. Each cast member is invested in their character, understands their choices, and brings new ideas to the project in a surprising and exciting way.

On page layouts and HDR rendering from the first days of Night Zero

Night Zero: Episode One officially premieres next Monday, September 8th, at http://www.nightzero.com.

Unlike the HDR rendering, which is fairly consistent across the board, touchup work times are impossible to gauge because so many factors are in play. How many photos composite the frame, what the lighting conditions were, whether there was background wind or shadowing, and how still the actors posed– each of these affects the nature and scope of the touchup job.

On the approaching premiere of Night Zero: Episode One on the website

Night Zero is in a new phase right now, where we put our recurring schedule plan to the test. In the month of August there is no production– it is the post-production of Episode One and the pre-production of Episode Two, the former of which will be released and the latter of which will be produced in September. There is a new kind of energy here, a combination of excitement (from being so close to completion of our first episode), confidence (from approaching the second episode with experience and new knowledge), and just a bit of uncertainty (of the pending release of a product unlike anything ever done). Suffice to say, there is much to do.
